Business Manager Tom Handfield and the members of UA Local 51 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union have reached out to the friends and family of the Station Fire Victims to show their support.
The Station Night Club, which regularly hosted glam metal and 1980s rock bands, was a popular local nightclub in West Warwick, Rhode Island. On the evening of Thursday, February 20, 2003, a fire took place. It became the fourth-deadliest nightclub fire in U.S. history, killing 100 people and injuring more than 200. Ninety-six perished on the night of the fire, and four died later from their injuries at local hospitals. Currently, the site of the fire is an empty lot, with the exception of a multitude of crosses; memorials left by loved ones of the deceased. Surviving family members have announced their intent to acquire the site and erect a permanent memorial.
Business Manager Tom Handfield and the members of UA Local 51 have reached out to the friends and family members of the Station Fire Victims to show their support to finally get a memorial built. Local 51 would like to urge other unions, organizations, and residents of surrounding areas to step forward and help this cause.
